Kamala Harris

Kamala Devi Harris born October 20th, 1964) is an American politician and attorney who is currently the 49th vice-president of the United States. She is the first woman elected vice president and she also holds the title of highest-ranking female officer in the history of America. As a member of the Democratic Party, she previously served as the attorney general for California from 2011 until 2017 and as a United States senator representing California from 2017 until 2021. Harris was born in Oakland. Harris received her law degree from Howard University. Harris began her career at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office prior to being enlisted into the San Francisco District Attorney's Office and later the City Attorney of San Francisco's office. In 2003, she was appointed the San Francisco district attorney. Harris was elected Attorney General of California in 2010, and reelected in 2014. Harris was the United States junior senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Santiago in the 2016 Senate election, becoming the second African American woman to serve in Congress , and the only South Asian American American to serve in the United States Senate. As senator, she fought for healthcare reform and federal de-scheduling of cannabis, a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants and the DREAM Act, a ban on assault weapons, as well as progressive tax reform. She is best known for her sharp questions to Trump administration officials in Senate hearings.
